Official US casualty figures have also changed several times in recent weeks. For example, on July 21, the official US Department of Defense system reported that 500 soldiers were injured in Operation Epic Fury, but that number has now dropped to 431.

The Intercept has found several unexplained changes in the US Department of Defense’s casualty figures in recent months. For example, on April 21, the number of soldiers “wounded in action” in the official figures suddenly dropped by 15, without the Department of Defense providing an explanation for the change.

Previous reports by The Intercept have also shown that the official US Department of Defense figures may not have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from the Iran war.

For example, the name of a Major named “Sorfly Davies,” a communications officer in the New York Army National Guard, remains missing from the Pentagon’s official death toll.

Davies, who was assigned to the headquarters of the 42nd Infantry Division, was reportedly killed on March 6 while on duty at Camp Burhering, Kuwait.

His death was widely reported at the time, and was even mentioned by Gen. Dan Kaine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a tribute to the fallen; however, Davies' name is not on the Pentagon's official casualty list.
