The US representative to the United Nations claimed that Iran is violating international law by attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, although the official made no mention of the reason behind Iran's closure of the strait.

In an interview on Sunday, Mike Waltz stated that 146 UN member states have aligned with the US in condemning Iran's attacks on civilian shipping.

Prior to February 28, the Strait of Hormuz was open to all vessels; however, following the onset of aggression by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran, the waterway was closed to all hostile ships, and passage through it became contingent upon obtaining Iran's permission.

Waltz claimed that actions taken against Iran were aimed at preventing the country from acquiring nuclear weapons, noting that over the past 20 years, the UN Security Council has adopted—not just one or two, but seven—resolutions emphasizing that Iran cannot, must not, and will not be permitted to pursue a nuclear weapons program.

Iran has repeatedly declared that its nuclear program is pursued solely for peaceful purposes and that it has no intention of producing nuclear weapons—a stance corroborated by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors, who have frequently confirmed the absence of any diversion in Iran's nuclear program.
