Al-Qassam's new tactics on the battlefield

Palestinian fighters who are confronting the aggression of the occupiers in Gaza have turned to new tactics.

According to ISNA, the British media reported in an article that the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement (Hamas), has focused its strategy on capturing Zionist soldiers and is trying to turn this tactic into one of its main tools in the ongoing battle against the Zionist regime.

According to the Guardian newspaper, last week, during an operation in Khan Yunis, located in southern Gaza, an Israeli soldier was killed while a Palestinian fighter was trying to capture him. Palestinian forces also tried to take his body with them, but they gave up on this action due to the lack of suitable conditions on the battlefield.

Analytical sources in the report emphasized that capturing a prisoner or even the body of a soldier could provide Hamas with a new tool to exert new pressure in indirect negotiations for a ceasefire. Especially since the Israeli regime's internal society is very sensitive to the capture of soldiers, and such actions can greatly affect public opinion.

In this regard, some Zionist experts have also acknowledged that Al-Qassam will likely increase its efforts to capture prisoners, both alive and dead.

Analysts have said that in recent months, Hamas has been able to use its media capabilities to exploit successful attacks for propaganda purposes and has published videos of attempts to capture soldiers on its networks.

According to the Guardian, this policy is not simply to pressure negotiations, but is part of a psychological battle. A Doha-based analyst said that with such actions, Hamas wants to strengthen the morale of its forces and at the same time weaken the Israeli army and its public opinion.

Another part of the report states that Hamas is still able to pursue its strategic goals.

Western military experts have also emphasized that Hamas has undergone a military transformation during the current war, transforming from a semi-regular force into a full-fledged guerrilla group capable of adapting to the widespread devastation of Gaza. The use of ambushes, underground tunnels, and dominance of urban warfare have been cited as tactical features of the group.

Analysts have acknowledged that despite intense military pressure, Al-Qassam has managed to maintain a network of internal and external communications and, relying on these resources, continue its new policy of taking prisoners.

“We in Israel have been testing the idea for some time that if the pressure on Hamas increases, they will eventually surrender. So what additional pressure do you want to imagine?! We killed their leaders, we destroyed Gaza, but they still have not changed their attitude and demands!”
