The spokesperson for Yemen’s Armed Forces announced that Yemeni forces had launched a missile attack on a Saudi oil tanker, stressing that such operations against Saudi vessels will continue.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s Armed Forces, announced on Tuesday evening that Yemeni forces had targeted the Saudi oil tanker NCC GHAZAL.

Saree said the attack was carried out in response to what he described as the vessel’s violation of Yemen’s maritime navigation ban and its disregard for warnings previously issued by the Yemeni Armed Forces.

He stated that the operation involved several ballistic missiles and claimed that, following the strike, the tanker was forced to retreat and turn back.

The military spokesperson reaffirmed Yemen’s intention to continue enforcing its ban on the passage of Saudi vessels, describing the policy as part of the equations of “blockade for blockade” and “comprehensive escalation in response to comprehensive escalation.”

According to the report, Yemeni authorities had repeatedly warned Saudi Arabia to end what they describe as the blockade imposed on Yemen. After those warnings were allegedly ignored, the Yemeni Armed Forces launched what they call Operation Breaking the Blockade.

A military source at Yemen’s Ministry of Defence said on Monday that Saudi air defence systems had failed to intercept Yemeni drones and claimed that the drones successfully struck their intended targets.

The source further asserted that statements issued by the Saudi Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs claiming the drones had been intercepted were an attempt to conceal the failure of the Kingdom’s air defence systems.

The same source also stated that Yemen had exercised restraint for years in the face of what it described as repeated violations by Saudi Arabia during the de-escalation period. The source added that Saudi Arabia should respect Yemen’s sovereignty and independence and accept responsibility for any consequences resulting from violations of existing agreements.
