Araghchi: We Are Reviewing the US Position and Will Respond

Speaking today and noting that messages are being exchanged between Iran and the US via intermediaries, the Foreign Minister said: "We presented our '7-Day Plan' and heard the American perspective; we are currently reviewing it, and I believe we will provide a response within a few days."

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister, spoke to reporters today (Thursday, October 8, 2026) regarding the exchange of messages between Iran and the US and Iran's "7-Day Plan"—which was conveyed to the American side through intermediaries. He stated: "The negotiation process is ongoing, and messages continue to be exchanged via intermediaries."

He added: "We presented our proposal—known as the '7-Day Plan'—and heard the American response to it; we are currently reviewing those views. I think we will respond within a few days."

On Sunday (October 4, 2026), while addressing ambassadors and heads of foreign missions in Tehran and referring to his trip to New York, the Foreign Minister stated that Iran had clearly explained its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz to all parties. He remarked: "We hope the US chooses the path of wisdom and rationality; however, if they move toward military solutions again, we are more prepared than ever and will take whatever measures are necessary to defend ourselves. If they choose the path of diplomacy, we remain ready."

Previously, the Foreign Minister had described Iran's seven-point plan for reopening the Strait of Hormuz as "fair and logical," stating that if the Americans claim to be seeking an agreement and a peaceful solution, Iran has already put forward such a solution.
