Iran urges enhanced relations with Indonesia

President Hojjat al-Islam Hassan Rouhani says the Islamic Republic welcomes the expansion of cooperation with Indonesia in various political, economic, cultural, and scientific fields.

According to Press TV, in a meeting with Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution in Tehran on Monday, President Rouhani urged Tehran and Jakarta to implement agreements already reached in an attempt to strengthen cooperation.

He said Iranian companies are ready to offer technical engineering services, cooperate in completing and developing refineries in Indonesia and participate in power generation and road construction projects in the Southeast Asian country.

President Rouhani welcomed Indonesia’s keenness to invest in Iran’s energy sector and increase its import of oil and gas.

“The level of relations between Iran and Indonesia, particularly in the economic sector, must further increase given the two countries’ broad capabilities,” the Iranian president said.

The Indonesian minister, for his part, said his country is resolved to develop cooperation with Iran in all fields, particularly in the economic sector.

Nasution added that Jakarta seeks an increase in the import of oil and gas from Iran.

Last December, heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Indonesian President Joko Widodo paid an official visit to Tehran.

During the visit, Tehran and Jakarta signed 12 agreements and documents for cooperation in a variety of areas including banking, food and agriculture, oil and gas as well as general trade.
