Qom – Senior religious scholar warns Azerbaijan leaders against tough religious bans saying Azeri leaders are digging their own grave by Anti-Shiite Muslim crackdown.

Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, top Muslim jurisprudent warned Azeri leaders over harsh religious bans in the country, saying political borders do not matter when it comes to defending Muslims.

He said, "Policy of the countries is not important since defending the oppressed Muslims is our duty."

"Wherever Muslims are, jurisprudence is there," said the religious scholar and added that defending Muslims is not subject to their denominations either.

He referred to the crisis in the Middle East and religious bans against Azerbaijan Muslims saying, "Shiite Muslims are among the most oppressed."

He criticized the alliance of the US, the Zionist regime and an Arab country and said, "This ominous triangle in league with Wahhabism has challenged the Shiite Muslims," describing the status of Azerbaijan Shiite Muslims as the worst one.

The grand Ayatollah also recommended Azeri leaders to free the prisoners warning them against a dangerous outcome for their measures.

He called world Muslims to unity and said, "Those who think jurisprudent interferes in their domestic affairs do not know the culture of jurisprudence," said the religious scholar.
