Tehran – Secretary General of the International Islamic Awakening Conference Ali Akbar Velayati has cautioned against the growing Western schemes to take over the control of the democratic movements across the Arab world.

According to Press TV, the US, the UK and France make every attempt to disallow the new revolutions in the region from culminating in success and they would spare no effort to grope their way into the regional countries, said Velayati at a Saturday meeting with a group of Libyan revolutionary activists in Iran’s capital of Tehran.

Velayati, who also serves as a senior international affairs advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, called on the Egyptian, Tunisian and Libyan nations to safeguard the remarkable victories they have achieved by their uprisings following their resistance against authoritarian regimes, “so that the West would not [be able to] take an opportunity to harm them.”

The senior Iranian official argued that the West employs numerous tactics to derail the recent revolutions in the region, such as fueling conflicts in the regional countries and creating rifts among Shiites and Sunnis.
