TEHRAN – It has been announced previously that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps honorably supports the Syrian people’s resistance, the IRGC commander said in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said that the Syrian people are motivated enough to fight the terrorists operating in their country, and there is no need for other countries’ to have a military presence in the country, and the IRGC supports Syrians by providing them with software and experimental education.

The Islamic Revolution does not belong only to Iran, and the IRGC safeguards the revolution, both inside and outside of Iran’s borders, he said.

He added that the mission of the IRGC is to protect the Islamic Revolution because the essence of the revolution is to oppose hegemony and the New World Order.

Commenting on the crimes committed by the Zionists and the United States in Syria, he said that Syria is on the front line of the Islamic resistance movement, and the IRGC is duty-bound to provide support to the Syrian people.

In response to a question about the actions taken by the IRGC to maintain security in Iran, especially in the northwestern and southeastern areas, he said that the IRGC ground force focus on providing security in those border areas.

Maintaining security in border areas is delegated to the people; for example in the southeastern areas, the heads of tribes are responsible for providing security, he added.

On relations between the people and the IRGC, he said that the IRGC supports the people and works along with the people.

The government and the IRGC cooperate with each other with the aim of serving the people and supporting them, he said in response to a question about the interactions between the government and the IRGC.

He went on to say that the enemies are making efforts to change the Iranian people’s beliefs and culture and added that comprehensive programs have been designed to counter such threats.

The press conference was held to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the IRGC, which occurs on April 22.
